Plozza Wine Group: All about the 100

Plozza Vini Tirano has produced a special wine for its company's anniversary.

In northern Italy, on the steep slopes of the Adda, the seventy-year old vines of Plozza Vini soak up the warm sun rays, ripening their Nebbiolo grapes. What started a hundred years ago with Pietro Plozza and a wine barrel, led to mastery through continuous development and became a formidable success story: first the No1 – Numero Uno, then the Plozza and now the Plozza 100. Whether it's an exceptional vintage wine, remains to be seen, however, it definitely has what it takes.

The grapes are picked and sorted by hand with much care before they are laid on wooden trays to dry for four months. As a result of extracting a large proportion of the water content, the later wine will be more full-bodied. Only thereafter, the actual wine-making starts. The juice of the vines is stored in new French demi-barrique for 16 months. A charismatic vintage is created for the 100-year anniversary celebration. The Plozza 100 is a very expressive wine with complex aromas of spices and fruits with a multi-layered harmonious character, of which a total of 5,300 bottles was produced. Given its high alcohol content, it should be enjoyed at full fruit and is excellent for pairing with red meat, game and mature cheese. The bottle design with one hundred facets by Lorenzo Ramaciotti pays homage to sunny Valtellina.
